siguiente parada ``AVES' luego Bonaire.

so we are in antigua now, arrived maybe 5 days ago... it is really, really nice. we spent 3 days in english harbor, which is amazing. it is a fancy marina and anchorage, but they kept all the old buildings in place from when lord nelson used it as a fort and hurricane hole in the 1800's... very cool with a museum and old artificats lying around.

then we went to this very nice private anchorage (tom petty owns the house on the hill) and stayed for 2 nights... it was very cool, you could dinghy all the way down the 'river' under the mangrove trees.

we just arrived at green island in antigua, and we will use this as our jumping off point to go to barbuda in a few days. little bit of a scary entrance, we had to worm around the reefs to enter. it is very beautiful here, there are about 20 boats anchored here and like 4-6 kitesurfers and windsurfers.... we are anchored and directly in front of us is a reef separating us from the atlantic ocean! and then immediatley to our right is a pristine beach of this small green island.... this place is spectacular. we are stealing internet from one of these mega sailing yachts next to us! well, thats all for now!

2.16.10

so finally we are in st kitts! we left st marteen sun feb 14 at 4pm. sailed past st barts, then past st eustatius at night. st eustatius was amazing at night. there was no moon but a TON of stars, and the west side of the island is a volcano which was touching the clouds in this pinkish night color... awesome!

we arrived at st kitts at 2am, but did not want to enter the bay at night so we waited to approach until daylight. the sunrise was really cool, these islands touch the clouds and the view at sun up was spectacular.

we decided to overnight in the marina where we had to do customs and immigration, because the anchorage was insanely rocky, and we were so tired from the overnight sail. we checked in with customs, then walked to the police station in town to stamp passports...

the capital here is nice, very small town called Basseterre. had a nice lunch of fried conch fritters, went to the local museum of the history of st kitts (they have only been independent for 25 years!). this island is quite nice. not nearly as much development as the other islands. a cruise port is now here, and there is building going on with that, but you can tell it is all very recent. i can barely understand the locals cause their accent is soooo thick. and german, he is lucky to understand anything, and they can barely understand his accent, it is sooo funny!

we are off today at noonish to sail to the south of the island to the secluded beaches. we will stay there a couple of days and snorkel and rest- thank god! we have not had a chance to swim yet because we have been so busy getting the boat ready, so i am excited!

then we will return here to get our boat clearance to go nevis i think we will stay on nevits for 5 days, then off to either antigua or dominica... still deciding..
